About
Jay's Home Lab is a passion-project, and a place where I can document all of the crap I get wrong with my home lab, and maybe the occasional thing I get right. I'm still not sure what my plans are, or how often I'll post, or even if anyone will read it, but I'll do it anyways.
This site is self-hosted on a Proxmox node in a cluster of five. The nodes are all Lenovo M920Qs with Core i3 8100T CPUs and 256gb NVMEs. One has 8gb of ram, three have 16gb, and one has 32gb. Various services are running on the nodes, depending on the resources they need, but the two services that have nodes all to themselves are Plex and Scrypted.
Credit where credit is due: Thanks to community-scripts.org for making it super easy to deploy Ghost and countless other containers and VMs. As always, do your due diligence running third-party scripts.
As for me, I'm Jay, a Smart Factory Technician by day, and a gamer and home lab hobbyist by night. Some of my all-time favorite games are Duke Nukem 3D (PC), Deus Ex (PC), Cyberpunk 2077 (PC), Rush 2 Extreme Racing USA (N64), and Pokemon (Gameboy). Original 151, baby! (Or 152 if you count MissingNo.). World of Warcraft (PC) also holds a special place in my heart because of how much of my 20s it occupied, although I haven't played it in many years.
I never went to school for any of this; instead, everything has been self-taught ever since I was a kid, learning as I go. I'll be 40 this year, married five years to a wonderful wife, and live in the Chicago suburbs.
